Becoming a Mother: A Life-changing Experience

Life has never been the same since I became a mother.

In the past:
Felt uncomfortable when getting dirty, and would like to clean up immediately.
Now:
When kids pee / poo / puke on me, I wash them up first and clean up the mess, while I am still "soaked" with holy water / gold / "bird's nest".

In the past:
Took leave from work to travel.
Now:
Take leave from work to look after sick kids.

In the past:
Rested the whole day when fell sick.
Now:
Can take care of sick kids even when I am sick.

In the past:
Shopping at bricks and mortar shops.
Now:
Online shopping in the middle of the night when the kids are sound asleep. It is a nightmare to shop with kids with "itchy" hands.

In the past:
Read books on travelling and self-improvement.
Now:
Read books on parenting and cooking.

In the past:
Enjoyed my food slowly and peacefully.
Now:
Only 2 types of food on my menu - "hot but have to swallow" set, or, "eat slowly but cold" set.

In the past:
Slept through 7-8 hours. Woke up at 10-11am on weekends.
Now:
Will buy lottery if can sleep through more than 3 hours, especially when one or both kids fall sick (that explains why I have never queued up at the lottery shop before). Wake up at 6-7am on weekends by energetic kids.

In the past:
Went to dance classes at gym for work-out.
Now:
Run after hyper-active kids for work-out.

In the past:
Conversation with husband - usually about two of us, where to eat or travel, about work, etc.
Now:
Conversation with husband - usually about our kids, our kids and our kids. Have they eaten? Have they poo poo today?

In the past:
"How have you been?" asked a friend whom I had not met for some time.
Now:
"How are your kids?" asked a friend whom I have not met for some time.

In the past:
Went out with friends often. Movie, KTV, or chit-chat in a cafe.
Now:
My kids are allergic to gatherings, they would automatically fall sick when I plan to meet my friends. Else my friends would report at my house.

In the past:
Sing pop songs with my husband / friends at KTV.
Now:
Sing nursery rhymes with my kids.

In the past:
Decision making - think of what I need and like.
Now:
Decision making - think of what my kids need and like first.

No regret. I enjoy all these changes - my children are my teachers, they teach me to become a more patient and stronger person. Really appreciate what my mum has done for the family, now I can truly understand how much sacrifice my mum has made for the family!

Happy Mother's Day to all Mummies!
