The Gruffalo's Child + Art & Science Activities

One of our children's favourite books is The Gruffalo, written by Julia Donaldson. The interesting plot and beautifully written rhymes attract the children! Recently, we found another book The Gruffalo's Child from the library, and we felt that it was another good read!

The children laughed when they read this page - when the Gruffalo's child was frightened by the mouse's shadow.

How does it work? So we carried out an experiment.

First, we prepared some puppets using paper and straws.

Then, we used a torch to investigate how to cast a big shadow on the wall.

Hao Hao found out that when the torch were positioned closer to the paper puppet, the shadow became bigger!

Other than mouse puppets, we also made some others like fish and rabbit. The children had fun creating their own stories using the paper puppets!

In summary, there are three activities from reading this book:

  • Making of paper puppets
  • Investigation on how to cast big / small shadow
  • Show and tell using paper puppets

What are some other activities that you can think of after reading this book?
