Totoro Steamed Cupcake

We have Japanese mushipan 蒸しパン for high tea today.

Pei Pei and Hao Hao observed how MaMi sift the flour, and learnt that only the grains that are smaller than the holes of the sieve can pass through.

Then they helped to mix the ingredients. They observed that the batter turned brown when chocolate powder was added, and it turned green when green tea powder was added.

The mushipan did not raise nicely this time, only Totoro one "survived"... sort of...

You may find the recipe of mushipan here.

How to draw Totoro on the cupcake?

  1. For each cupcake of batter, add about 0.5 teaspoon of green tea powder
  2. Put some original batter into a piping bag (can use baking paper / patchment paper to fold into a cone), squeeze a semicircle on the bottom and two oval shapes on top
  3. Take a tablespoon of original batter, add a quarter teaspoon of chocolate powder, put into piping bag and make the dots as shown
  4. Use a toothpick and drag the dots in the directions indicated by the arrows. For the remaining 4 dots in the white semicircle, drag in the directions indicated by the red arrows
