Japanese Snack Mochi Taiyaki from Oyoge! Taiyaki

[Sponsored Review]

You may be familiar with the Japanese snack called taiyaki (たい焼き) which is a fish-shaped pan cake with filling.

But have you heard of "mochi taiyaki"?

Thanks to Oyoge! Taiyaki for introducing this unique Japanese snack to us! Mochi taiyaki is fish-shaped grilled mochi with filling. Currently, there are 6 flavours on their menu - Japanese azuki beans (red beans), matcha (green tea), goma (black sesame), white cheesecake, strawberry fromage, and Belgian choc, with price ranges from SGD2.50 to SGD3 per piece. There is also limited seasonal flavour, for example, there was sweet potato last month.

From top left, clockwise: strawberry fromage, matcha, goma, Japanese azuki beans

White cheesecake, Belgium choc, genmai tea

Their Mochi Taiyaki is chewy, with a generous amount of filling. The moisture is just nice, so it is easy to swallow.

In Japanese azuki beans mochi taiyaki, you can find the whole grain of red beans within the red bean paste, this gives a special sensation in the mouth. The cheesecake mochi taiyaki tastes like no-bake-cheesecake that I love! My favorite is the matcha mochi taiyaki, the green tea aroma is so heavenly.

They also serve Genmai cha (green tea with roasted brown rice), which is SGD2 per cup. You enjoy a discount of SGD0.50 when you buy any mochi taiyaki. The tea is a great beverage to go along with mochi taiyaki!

The nice folks from Oyoge Taiyaki also gifted us some mochi taiyaki to bring home for our children to sample. Their verdict? They gave thumbs up the Belgium choc!

We put the Japanese azuki beans, matcha and goma in the oven toaster for 2 minutes. The outer crust turned slightly crispy. We also put strawberry fromage and white cheesecake into the fridge for 30 minutes, they became great dessert under the hot weather! おいしい (Yummy)!!

Oyoge! Taiyaki is so thoughtful that it provides a hotline for the customers to order in advance, so that they do not need to waste time to wait. This is especially helpful to those who drives, as the shop is located in the busy Chinatown area, the driver can just pick and go without the hassle of finding a car park lot.

Did you notice the picture of a white fish in crown? The business developer shares that it means their mochi taiyaki is unique and stands out from the rest of conventional taiyaki around. He also shares that they will launch Japanese soft ice-cream in May. I am looking forward to that!
